Austrian Traffic Jam
We were very close to the German border and could either take a 1-hour hike or few minute drive to get to King Ludwig's castle. We knew there was a decent hike once at the castle and opted to take the drive. There was a slight delay getting to the castle - I believe this is an "Austrian traffic jam!"
DAILY TOUR ADVANTAGE: STRUCTURED TOUR TIME
The day was completely clear and sunny. Perfect for a walk up to the castle. From King Ludwig's castle, you can expect amazing views of the mountains, lake, and his original castle home. From King Ludwig's castle, you can walk over a very high bridge called Mary's Bridge for some of the best views back of the castle.
After our tour, we enjoyed a packed lunch by the lake. Next, we stopped in at the nearby luge. It's basically a metal slide built into a hill. You sit on a small cart with a hand brake and your cart is pulled to the top of the course on a cable. The ride down is fast and fun! Adults and kids took several rides and also took advantage of the fun playground on the property. This day was perfect - such great weather and SO much fun!
