WHY TAKE A RICK STEVES' TOUR?
As you follow along with our Day By Day in this scrapbook each day will highlight a different benefit of our Rick Steves' tour!
Our family has significant travel experience within North America, but we’ve always wanted to travel to Europe once our kids were old enough to appreciate the trip. We technically began preparing for European travel two summers ago when we obtained passports and ventured into Canada. In the summer of 2012, we took our second trip to Alaska as a family and booked non-stop flights from Dallas. Those 7-8 hour flights were certainly a “test run” for flying across the Atlantic!
All of our domestic travels have been self planned and successful – surely we could do the same in a few countries in Europe, right? We’ve watched Rick Steves’ Europe for several years and appreciate his approach for staying in locally owned and centrally located hotels, hitting the must see “blockbusters”, but also taking the time to immerse with locals. I’m sure we could have planned a wonderful trip on our own, especially with a few of his guidebooks, but how easy and fun it would be to join a tour!
Deciding to take a Rick Steves' tour was easy. He has bestselling guidebooks on European travel, we love the TV and radio shows, and a very good friend had just booked her third tour. What’s not so easy is deciding which tour to take first. Going through the tours site, there are many options. Our kids are 9 and 14, so we opted for the Family Europe in 14 Days Tour. Each member of our family was looking forward to a different country or activity on the trip and we felt this ‘best of’ tour would give us a great introduction to Europe.
